The Marschall von Bieberstein family can trace its origins back over 800 years to the region today called Saxony in eastern Germany. The current family name derives from Bieberstein castle near Dresden. Now there are about 50 male and female family members living predominantly in Germany and the USA with the name Marschall (von Bieberstein). In the past, most family members served in government or military functions if they did not support themselves as landlords or estate owners. Today the professions and political and religious beliefs of family members reflect the broad spectrum of our modern society. We consider ourselves an open-minded family, conscious of its history and traditions while taking an active part in present day life. We place particular importance on the fostering of family ties across national borders. We organise regular family reunions and this website is another tool to help us keep in touch.
The website provides information on the family history and genealogy and family events. It is aimed at both family members and interested third persons (with certain pages where the access is restricted to family). We welcome suggestions for improvement from all visitors to our website. Please send these to our secretary, Joachim E. Marschall von Bieberstein.
Most source materials for the website are German. We apologise that currently we are not able to provide English translations of every text. This website is a work in progress.

*) Note to genealogists When conducting research on a person whose surname contains the elements "Marschall" or "Bieberstein" please keep in mind that this person does not necessarily belong to the Marschall von Bieberstein family, as there are a number of families in Germany with similar names not related by blood , e.g. the Marschall von Altengottern family (contact person: Wolf Baron MvA, 64001 Altengottern/Germany), the Marschalck von Bachtenbrock family (contact person: Clemens Baron MvB, Rittergut Hutloh, .... Hechthausen/Germany) and the Rogalla von Bieberstein family (contact person: Kuno RvB, ....). The same is to be said about a number of families who have died out in the past 150 years, such as the counts Marschall auf Burgholzhausen (a branch of the above mentioned Marschall von Altengottern), the Marschall von Ebnet, the Marschall genannt Greiff, the Marschall von Ostheim, the Marschall von Sulicki and the Kazimierski von Bieberstein families; the Marschall von Pappenheim family, still flourishing today and equally unrelated to our family, do not use the "Marschall" in their name any longer. In addition there is a large number of families simply named "Mars(c)hall" or "Bi(e)berstein" . You will not find any information about these families on our homepage. For further reference regarding some of the above families you may want to turn to the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels, Adelslexikon, vol. VIII, pages 278 ff., Starke Publishing Co., Limburg/Germany ( 1997).
